Visual Inspection
With over 30 years experience in leak detection and even more experience in the pool industry, we can often detect leaks which may escape the untrained eye. If a leak is visually suspected we will verify the location with one of the following methods.
The Leakalyzer Electronic Water Loss Analysis Sensor
The Leakalyzer enables rapid determination of a pool’s water loss. It measures water level changes to the 10,000th of an inch, enabling leaks to be identified in as little as 5 minutes. The Leakalyzer is so sensitive that water loss of less than a gallon from a 20’ x 40’ pool is readily indicated.
LeakTrac 2200
The LeakTrac 2200 utilizes proven technology to find vinyl liner leaks fast, without dye, and without draining the pool. While standing on the deck we are able to first establish a leaks general area and then pinpoint even the smallest leaks in minutes. This technology is effective in any water containing vessel with an electrically insulating shell, (vinyl, fiberglass, acrylic, etc.)
How it works:
The sophisticated, but simple to use device puts a tiny electrical charge (powered by a few AA batteries) into the pool water. This charge seeks to make a connection to an external ground. Since the pool liner is a good electrical insulator, the only ground connections are through conductive penetrations in the liner. The LeakTrac detects electrical current flow in the water and produces audible signals that lead us to the exact location of the leak.
Electronic Geophone
The Electronic Geophone is a listening device used to pinpoint underground plumbing leaks by detecting the distinctive bubbling sound created when air is blown through a leak into water saturated soil.
Electronic Hydrophone
We also use a Hydrophone (underwater microphone) to locate structural leaks in the shell of the pool as well as pipes running parallel to the pool wall.
Ultrasonic Leak Locator
The ultrasonic leak locator is a device that is adapted to listen for air leaks under pressure. This technology works best when the plumbing is exposed, however it has been utilized to identify plumbing leaks under soil. Typically we prefer to use a camera to identify these leaks, but some leaks are not able to be seen due to debris, restriction in the pipe (too many turns) or other environmental factors.
Ridgid SeeSnake NanoReel Camera with Navitrack Scout Locator
The SeeSnake nanoReel opens up new possibilities in long run small diameter inspections. With this camera, we are able to perform visual inspections inside of swimming pool plumbing without causing damage to the pipe. If an issue is found, we are able to take still and video images of the problem to be viewed by the customer and/or pool company at a later time.
The NaviTrack Scout uses multi-directional antenna technology to see the entire signal given off by the SeeSnake nanoReel's camera sonde. Depth is automatically calculated and displayed when over the target. This is particularly useful to prevent unnecessary digging.
We are constantly on the hunt for new, non-destructive technologies to add to our toolboxes, so you may see us use something that isn't listed here. If you are curious as to whether or not we utilize a certain technology, please don't hesitate to ask. However, the items listed above are the most commonly used.
