The Bucket Test*

Supplies Needed:

  • 5 gallon bucket with no leaks

  • Grease pencil or electrical tape (other markers or tapes may leave behind a permanent mark)

  • Brick or Heavy Rock

 Directions:

1.     Fill the pool to a normal level.

2.     Place the bucket on a pool step with the brick or heavy rock in the bottom to weigh it down.

3.     Fill the bucket  ¾ of the way up.

4.     Once the water has settled, use the grease pencil or electrical tape to mark the water level on both the pool and the bucket.

Allow the pump to run for 24 hours, and then compare the two water levels.

If the water level in the pool has dropped faster than the water in the bucket you probably have a leak, in this case please perform the bucket test again with the pump off for 24 hours and contact us with the results.

If the water level in the bucket has dropped faster than the pool water, the dog is probably drinking from the bucket.

Phone consultations are free if you have any questions regarding this process.

*At your own risk.  Care should be taken when placing, moving, and adjusting bucket and weight (rock, brick, or other) as to prevent damage.  We are able to provide an electronic leak analysis if you prefer.
